...RHYTHM

Rhythm is the pulse of life. It is the heartbeat of your mother as you were developing in the womb.  It your breath perpetually filling your lungs in and out, in and out, from the moment you are born, until the moment you leave your body in death.  It is the beat of your footsteps on the earth as you walk from place to place.

Rhythm is a fascinating subject of study.  It can be as simple as dancing to an uplifting house track, the 4/4 kick anchoring the groove, the snare shifting your hips from side to side, the hi hat making your head bob.  It can also be as complex as the ricocheting sounds of breaks and drum and bass, with bass drums banging, snares and shots firing intermittently, all the while weaving an intricate web of meter for the ear to process.  More complicated yet, rhythm can be found in the intricate polyrhythms of Africa and India, where there are rhythms of 2, 3, 4, 5 or more beat patterns played simultaneously.

...MUSIC

I believe music has a profound effect not only on our minds and emotions, but also our bodies and our spirits.  We are constantly bombarded with sounds and music and rhythms in our daily life, yet usually we tune these things out into the background.  There is a world of depth in sound, and in music, but we must LISTEN rather than merely HEARING.  Have you ever had a chance to just sit there undistracted and listen to your favorite track?  There are so many layers of sounds there cloaked in subtlety.

...SOUND

All sound is frequency.  Frequency is vibration.  Vibration is energy.  Just as radio and television waves travel through wood and steel to be registered by their respective electronic devices, sound waves can travel through skin, and flesh, and bone to resonate in our souls.

Our human bodies are made up of electromagnetic fields, and the energy in sound can alter our vibrations.  This is called harmonic resonance.  There are sounds that are beneficial to us, which are consonant sounds.  There are also sounds that affect our state of being in a negative way, whether we are conscious of it our not.  This is called dissonance.  We are all familiar with the sound of nails being screeched across a chalkboard or that someone with the whiny voice.  Be conscious of the sounds around you.  They affect you more than you realize.

Something to Consider:

Ever wonder why sometimes you can be just sitting there chillin and all of a sudden the most random song pops into your head?  Look around you.  At every moment there are an infinite number of radio waves and tv waves whizzing by you invisibly.  If you go far enough out into space you can hear radio broadcasts from many many years ago.  Could it be possible that these waves are bounced around and in subtlety picked up by the brain?
