What is it about raving that continues to draw the masses?  Is it the music?  Is it the drugs?  Is it just something new and novel, and the "trendy" thing to do on the weekends?  Is it a place where guys go to hook up with unassuming glitter-faced raver-chicks on E?

As for me, I hope it's the music.  It's always been about the music.  And though I've only been involved with this scene for a mere two years, I'm aware of it's history, and aware of some the controversies and changes that have begun to plague the scene of late.

I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the scene at this point.  Many of us with our sensibilities still intact will shy away from the massives or maybe only go to parties when a favorite DJ or artist is on the lineup.  Many of us with our heads on straight have come to a point where we have respect for their bodies and use drugs responsibly if not steer clear of them altogether.  I am in this category.

• If you're going to do drugs, please please please educate yourself.  Go to DanceSafe and support them, they are an awesome group whose goal it is to educate ravers.  And please, if you're not dancing, don't sit in the middle of the floor!

• If you hate wack parties, then don't go to them. Support the promoters that put on quality parties.  This doesn't always mean the big name promoters or massives, although those guys do know how to put together some great lineups.  Support groups like Lotus Magazine, who are dedicated to keeping the genuinely good things about our scene alive.

• If you're going to be violent, or you're the type to be hardcore and try to start shit with people just for accidentally bumping into you, then please just save your 20 bucks and go somewhere else.  It may be worn out, but the spirit of this whole thing still is about Peace, Unity, Love, and Respect.  And go take some Anger Management class to deal with your issues.
