My favorite! The NU SKOOL
scene is the one I've followed most closely and if you rummaged through
my crates you'd find that the majority of my rekkids are of this
genre. How would you characterize the nu skool sound? Let's
ask BT.
BT: "The nu-skool breaks
stuff incorporates so many of the things that I love. It takes
from electro and hip-hop to elements of progressive house to elements
of drum & bass, but it's all at a tempo that Sasha or John [Digweed]
or Ali and Sharam [Deep Dish] can play in the context of good deep
progressive house sets. That's what I love so much about it.
To me, the most cutting-edge music of the last 10 years, the most
interesting music, has been drum & bass. What I love about
nu-skool breaks is that you have these huge sub-sonic b-lines and
editing techniques that you have from drum & bass, but you have
them at a tempo which is kind of more palatable to alot of people on the
dance floor."
Whoa, BT! You took the words
right outta my mouth! I don't think I could have said it more
eloquently or succinctly than that. I agree wholeheartedly.
I just love them bass lines, them sub-bass woofs vibrating thru me, the
crisp breaks, man....I LOVE THIS SHIT!
